Hi everyone

If you’ve been following my blog lately, then you know that I’m serious about getting you into the niches rather than trying to build your own list of other internet marketers from Giveaway events (OK, I’m the Giveaway guy, I have to be up front with you !)

Now today’s lesson is sheer hands on teaching, so I hope you get a lot out of this. Ready to learn, and apply ? This is going to take a little while to set up, but read on – I charge $100 for this sort of info.

TARGETING KEYWORDS FOR SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION

If you’re going to tap into the niches, then you’re going to need a list of keywords.

#1. Locate your keywords

This can be done in Word Tracker for FREE, or Keyword Elite as a PAID option. I’m using the example of mesothelioma (or I’ve gone for an abberatio nof that: malignant mesothilioma, and I’ve set up a new site to locate keywords for this niche.

If you’re looking for high paying keywords, then you could do, as I did, and search for them here. For now, here’s the FREE Tool from Wordtracker, and I use it all the time as well. This lists the average daily search volume for a particular keyword:

A good niche will have hundreds of searches on it. The base word “mesothelioma” does have that here, which is a good sign, but for this example I’m going for the misspelling, which is “mesothilioma”. I’ve picked up from Google that Adsense Advertisers (using the Google keyword tool) are willing to pay big bucks for the misspelling, not just the actual search phrase. Albeit said that there won’t be as many lookups for this search phrase compared to the actual one, but it sure pays big !

Using the other tool you can find out if there’s any money to be made from the niche – so see if your search term is a high paying keyword. This merely lines up with what we’ve found in Google Adsense tool anyway, so I’m happy with that.

high paying keywords

This keyword pays a maximum of $50.75 a click when using the Search network (not bad eh?) with an avaerage of $20.11 per click. Now I’ve set my site up for adsense, and the click paying amount is likely to be a lot less, but that’s fine for now.

Now the really big questions is, “How many competing websites are there for this keyword?” For this, you can simply type the keyword into Google and let it spit out the results. There are just 13,300 results for the misspelling. That’s awesome. Anything under 10,000 competing results is fairly easy to optimise, as you’ll see in a second …

So … we’ve got a high paying keyword, with not much competition, and some indication of traffic. This is the perfect combination that you need to dominate a niche, based on keywords and “on page optimisation” alone.

What happens next ?

Well you build the site!

You can build it to chase to avenues: to chase the traffic, or to chase the dollars. I’d suggest that you chase the traffic first with the long tail keyword phrases. So in my example I’ve worked through the main keywords and applied some of the similar “normal” keyword phrases to the “misspelling” and built up search phrases to optimise web pages for my website.

eg. mesothilioma statistics, mesothilioma lawyers, etc.

Now next week I’ll aim to give you part two, but I want to reassure you that this is not going to be a waste of your time, if you follow these methods correctly. So here’s the proof:

1. I registered the domain on 24th May 2008

2. Google started to send me traffic on 24th May, the day I launched. You’ll see I’m in Australia, and there were clicks on the site from other parts of the world.

To save time, and speed up the process of keyword research I use Keyword elite. This can return THOUSANDS more keywords than the FREE Word Tracker keyword tool, in around 10 minutes.

Then, to determine if the keywords have much competition, I save HOURS by running project 4 in Keyword elite using the THOUSANDS of keywords it generates in project 1. This gives me the exact niches that I can target and ensure a Top #1-10 position easily.

Oh, did I say Top #1 position ?

You bet.

I achieved that in under 7 days using the “On Page Optimisation” techniques as well as some “Off Page Optimisation” techniques that I’ll show you next post.

Just search for the terms: mesothilioma statistics, and malignant mesothilioma. They come up to the top now :) Boy am I pleased.

And you can do it too. Try it.

Search for your niche. Learn what you need to learn and see what you can find.

All the best,
